Hallstatt_Denkwerkstatt 2024, 8. & 9. Juli 2022

Future Question Housing - About Tourism - Identity of the Place: architecture students, residents, experts and interested people in dialogue about Hallstatt and the Salzkammergut region - July 8 & 9, 2022 at the HTBLA Hallstatt.

The European Capital of Culture Bad Ischl - Salzkammergut 2024 together with the
Research Department Housing and Design of the Vienna University of Technology invites you to the Think Tank in Hallstatt.
Das mehrjährige Projekt ist Teil der Salzkammergut 2024 Programmlinie GLOBALOKAL – BUILDING.

Hallstatt and the Salzkammergut region take on a special role beyond the much-discussed topic of overtourism in the question of housing needs and lifestyles of the most diverse user groups (residents, students, tourists, etc.), which sometimes requires new and innovative perspectives and impulses. In addition, parameters such as new ways of working, digitalisation, mobility issues, the consequences of the Covid-19 pandemic and the resulting new role of rural areas cover a broad spectrum of future issues.

Since 2020, the project "Hallstatt_Denkwerkstatt 2024" has been part of the applied research project ""Living in Extremis: Hallstatt - Salzkammergut 2024" at the Research Department Housing and Design of the Faculty of Architecture at the TU Vienna. It consists of a multi-part dialogue format that will gradually evolve until 2024. The building blocks include university courses, on-site dialogue events and the accompanying documentation/publication of the process. The basis is formed by student projects that are developed in courses. Within the framework of the "Hallstatt_Denkwerkstatt 2024", the work from teaching and research will be brought to Hallstatt and negotiated on site with residents, experts and interested parties. The findings, theses and impulses that emerge at the end of this discussion will in turn shape courses in the following semesters and further on-site formats. It is therefore the next generation of young people who are facing the housing and living issues of the future and who want to explore and develop new impulses, perspectives and approaches in dialogue with the place, the region and its inhabitants.
