She works interdisciplinary and freelance, mainly as a director.

She describes the exhibition Hammerweg – Art and Everyday Life in the Temporary Museum Arbeitersiedlung, which transformed a workers settlement from the 1950s into a walk-in experience-, art- and reflection site over a period of several months, and her film The European Grandma Project as her signature works- in this documentarygrandmothers from nine European countries share essential parts of the history of the 20th century from a female perspective.

Based on this aptly succinct statement, Alenka Maly’s film project looks at the history of migrants who contribute to the success of the celebrated Salzkammergut tourist region from the backstage.
