Thiemo Strutzenberger is an actor and director from Kirchdorf an der Krems (Upper Austria). He studied acting at the Max-Reinhardt-Seminar in Vienna with Klaus Maria Brandauer, Hubertus Petroll, Susanne Granzer and René Pollesch and acted at Burgtheater Wien from 2002-2005 as a part of his studies. He was a member of the ensemble at the Deutsche Schauspielhaus in Hamburg from 2005-2007 and at Theater Neumarkt in Zurich from 2008-2009. He was a member of the ensemble at Schauspielhaus Wien from 2010-2015. He completed a master’s degree in Gender Studies at the University of Vienna and took part in the FORUM TEXT program of uniT (Graz) with mentoring from the Austria author Peter Waterhouse. His play The Zofen Suicides received its premiere in 2010, and the world premieres of Queen Recluse and Hunde Gottes (God’s Dog) at Schauspielhaus Wien followed in 2013 and 2014. He became a member of the ensemble of Theater Basel in 2015. He realized his first directorial work there in 2017 and became a writer in residence in 2018/2019. His play Wiederaufstehung der Vögel (The Resurrection of the Birds) received its premiere at Theater Basel in 2020 and his play Der Preis des Menschens (The Price of Human Beings) received its premiere at the Residenztheater in Munich in the same year.

Thiemo Strutzenberger was a part of the postgraduate gender studies program at the University of Basel and completed his doctorate in 2021. In the same year, he received the 3sat prize for his acting work in Stefan Bachmann’s production of Graf Öderland, which was also invited to the Theatertreffen festival in Berlin.
