Phase 1: Pre-Selection

The pre-selection phase started with the founding of the Salzkammergut office 2024 in February 2018. In less than a year, the team intensively explored the region. From the Almtal to Gosau, from St. Gilgen to the Ausseerland, many discussions were held about the strengths and weaknesses of the Salzkammergut and future scenarios were drafted. A series of decentralized nodes and a future lab provided the framework for focused discussions and workshops.

The result of the pre-selection phase was the first bidbook. This bidbook elaborated the chance of the title for the Salzkammergut, the vision and the concept as well as first projects were presented.

On 31 January 2019, a team of 8 people from across the region, presented the application concept to the jury. We got accepted to the next round, the so-called “shortlist”.

The first bidbook is now being published for the first time to its full extent. The Essence is a brief summary of the essential content of the first bidbook.

Nodes

According to the Dictionary a NODE is:

  • a point where important routes come together
  • a point or place where lines come together or branch out.

At those Nodes we have met, networked and found new ways for the Salzkammergut together. Each Node was dedicated to a theme. In a relaxed atmosphere, opinions, perspectives and ideas were discussed. The results from the Nodes were collected in the Salzkammergut 2024 office and were taken into consideration for the design of the cultural development plan and the application for the European Capital of Culture.

THANK YOU for the numerous, exciting encounters!

Future Lab

How do we want to live in the Salzkammergut in 2030? Which deficits exist at the moment? What bothers us and what can we do about it? – These were the questions discussed during the Open Future Lab, end of May 2018 in the Deutschvilla in Strobl. Each of the roughly 20 participants brought along various experiences and perspectives. As result we got 15 concrete future scenarios that now serve as the basis for the cultural development plan and the application for the European Capital of Culture 2024. The Future Lab was accompanied by Ideenstudio Mehrblick.
