Especially on the Küchenwiese and the surrounding areas, a garden of healing powers is intended to be planted on the approximately 500 square meters area in which an open classroom will be embedded as its “furniture”.
The students will initially conduct research together with the teachers on-site in the area of Bad Ischl and the Salzkammergut region: which medicinal herbs as well as types of vegetables and fruits with beneficial effects for the human body are there in the region? What older types have been forgotten and are worth cultivating increasingly again in the sense of biodiversity? Herb experts, fruit and vegetable growers as well as additional specialists from the region should be interviewed, visited and invited to the school.
In a second step, students will visit renowned garden projects both within Austria and abroad.
In a third step, a class room under the open sky will be built in a contemporary form on the Küchenwiese and successively embedded within the garden of the healing powers. From fruit trees to herbs, this garden is intended to contain a large quantity of plants whose fruits or leaves can be used by the school’s cafeteria. The garden, classroom and space for learning is a fragrant and colorful oasis of the senses and will inspire the thoughts of the students and teachers alike.
