About the project

The RURASMUS – Research Institute to Promote New Perspectives for Rural Europe is dedicated to the discovery and dissemination of prototypical methods for a sustainable community and regional development.  Through this, RURASMUS supports a sustainable transformation process of rural space in Europe in a long-term manner.

The RURASMUS semester is the method suggested for the RURASMUS research project within the 2024 European Capital of Culture Bad Ischl Salzkammergut Region. Students will live for at least one semester in selected communities of the 2024 European Capital of Culture Salzkammergut Region and work with the specific local research questions there. The students will do this as part of their university education. The results obtained will be used by the community development and regional development associations and the 2024 European Capital of Culture Bad Ischl Salzkammergut Region as impulses.

The evaluation over the course of and the results of the RURASMUS semester will be incorporated within the research projects of the RURASMUS Research Institute. Examples of possible research questions and topics can be found on the basis of previous projects in the communities in rural space in Austria and Germany (see also rurasmus.at/pioniergemeinden).
