For the first time in the 39-year history of the European Capital of Culture, 23 municipalities in the inner Alpine, rural region are joining forces to form a Capital of Culture. The Salzkammergut is rich in exciting stories, places and people. A multi-layered region whose impressive history began 7,000 years ago with salt mining in Hallstatt and has since made history in many respects.
