Altaussee

"Altaussee is not a village, but a disease that you can never get rid of!" once said the poet Jakob Wassermann. This feeling can be felt in Altaussee then as well as today. Not for nothing have countless artists* settled here.

The world of miners in the salt mine exists today as it did hundreds of years ago. The fishermen fetch their char from the crystal-clear lake, just as their ancestors did. And the guests love Altaussee as much as the first strangers who came to the village well over a hundred years ago and realized that they were not strangers here at all, but safe and at the destination of their dreams.
Altaussee has always seduced creative people, painters, writers, musicians to stay and come back. Those who follow their example are well advised to do so. The landscape welcomes its guests with lime-bright peaks, mountain forests and flower meadows or as white surfaces, heavy with snow; it lays a bright, blue lake inviting for a swim, in winter steaming in the cold or covered with bare ice at their feet and provides always new images to the eyes.

It is also good to know that Altaussee has been a climatic health resort since 1989 and that there is a graduation and Kneipp bath in the village, where brine from the Altaussee salt mountain is used.
