Salt and water are still determining factors in the region today. International and nationally renowned artists dedicate themselves to these elements metaphorically as the “salt of life” in the form of objects, sculptures, installations, film, photo and sound works. They also address the burning issues of dwindling glaciers and the increasing scarcity of water worldwide.

100 years after the “Ballet Mécanique” was created, it will be performed in the version originally conceived by Antheil and synchronised with the version of the 1924 film of the same name by Fernand Léger. A historical reconstruction by the Graz artist Winfried Ritsch.

Why shouldn’t a woman have an affair”, the Jewish-Austrian composer Oscar Straus has his “Frau, die weiß, was sie will!” sing, thus not only composing a masterpiece that epitomises the operetta style of the Weimar Republic, but also reflects the new image of women at the time – lascivious, fresh and cheeky. A furious guest performance by the Komische Oper Berlin.
