More about the contributor

Nik Raspotnik, the singer, actor and director from Linz, is one thing above all: enormously versatile. His vocal and performance spectrum ranges from Peter Alexander to Bud Spencer and Falco. It is no coincidence that voice imitation is one of the special skills of the current theatre director in the centre of Linz.

Nikolaus “Nik” Raspotnik was born in Linz in 1974 to deaf parents. As a result, “Austrian sign language” is one of his languages today, alongside German, English, French and various dialects. The trained baritenor studied musical and operetta at the Vienna Conservatory as well as acting and singing at the Bruckner Conservatory in Linz. In the course of his career to date, Raspotnik has appeared on a wide variety of renowned stages, including the Musicalsommer Winzendorf, the Röttingen Festival and the city theatres of Steyr and Bad Hall. He has also appeared on the stages of Baden and the Felsenbühne Staatz as well as a guest performance in the Rocky Horror Show at the Landestheater Linz. “Stops abroad” such as appearances as Peter Alexander in Florida in the USA or as “Leopold” in the operetta “Im Weißen Rössl” on a tour of Germany emphasise the aforementioned versatility.

Since 2011, however, it is above all the “Theater in der Innenstadt” in Linz, where Nik Raspotnik is not only the artistic director but also a key artistic figure. Successes such as “Jesus Christ Superstar”, “Blues Brothers” and “Sissi – Eine Kaiserin lässt sich scheiden” bear witness to Raspotnik’s life as an artist. It should not be forgotten that in this case the “theatre boss” usually also lends a hand with the set and design – after all, he completed the relevant training at the Stan Winston School of Character Arts.
