Musicians from Italy were in great demand throughout Europe in the 16th to 18th centuries and many Italian musicians made the journey across the Alps. A favourite destination was the court in Innsbruck, the hub of Europe’s musical elite. But many musicians from north of the Alps also travelled to Italy to see the latest developments in music. The programme “Attraverso le Alpi” describes a musical journey from Florence to Innsbruck with music by composers who – in one direction or another – crossed the Alps.
