The Hot Box is the product of a cooperation between the cooking collective Healthy Boy Band (Philip Rachinger, Lukas Mraz and Felix Schellhorn) and the agency as part of the European Capital of Culture Bad Ischl Salzkammergut 2024. The focus is on an intercultural rethinking and revitalisation of the host culture, as a place of social interaction and in particular as a mobile training centre for catering professions in the area of tension between image problems and a shortage of skilled workers in the industry.
What's on offer? Sausage. And why? Because it's not just sausage anyway. Because it's actually about much more than what's on the plate. And that's what the Healthy Boy Band stands for, serving up sausage in the heart of the banner city of Bad Ischl on 27 January 2024; in the Hot Box Building, where the traditional Japanese omakase concept meets state-of-the-art sausage stand architecture. Translated, omakase means "I leave it up to you" and refers to the fact that the choice of food is entirely up to the host and is freshly prepared at the bar in front of the guest. A key element of omakase is the element of surprise with which the chef amazes the guest.

Tavern Culture Reloaded: The lab offers renowned chefs, ambitious apprentices and artists a playing field to reimagine traditional regional gastronomy with new culinary skills and innovative concepts.

The European Capital of Culture provides an impulse for the reinvigoration of the disappearing tavern culture in the country. With representatives from local and European gastronomy of the highest level, art and culture, thematic regulars’ tables will be initiated, taverns filled with art and culture, tavern labs will be started in tourism and vocational schools. The performative cooking collective Healthy Boy Band (Lukas Mraz, Philip Rachinger, Felix Schellhorn) developed the HOT BOX BUILDING especially for the European Capital of Culture, in cooperation with The mobile installation works at a variety of locations and activates them for a certain period of time: in the center of town next to the abandoned taverns, on the lake in front of a picturesque mountain panorama, on the field directly with the productions, in abandoned industrial halls as ambassadors.
