Description

In his lecture "Comings and goings in the flora of Ausseerland over the last 100 years", landscape ecologist Alexander Mrkvicka takes us on a historical journey through the botanical development of the region. He repeatedly follows in the footsteps of Lily Rechinger, daughter of the spa doctor in Bad Aussee, who began collecting plants in 1901 and published the first comprehensive work on the flora of Ausseerland in 1965. The lecture not only sheds light on historical aspects, but also presents current discoveries and new additions to the flora of Bad Aussee in order to convey a comprehensive picture of the current botanical diversity of this region.

Spontaneous participants are also very welcome! Please remember to wear suitable footwear.

Gravity and Growth

To what extent is the human being a part of nature and how can we shape a sustainable world? The alpine garden in Bad Aussee is known as an oasis of botanical diversity. In times where knowledge regarding landscape and gardening is becoming increasingly lost, its significance as a place of recreation and mediation must be emphasized. In this project, it serves as a basis and space of yearning for the scientific and artistic examination of biodiversity, ecosystems as well as nature- friendly sustainability strategies and the relationship of human beings to the pre-alpine and alpine landscapes.
