Let’s go, Salzkammergut! https://www.salzkammergut-2024.at/en/veranstaltungen/lets-go-salzkammergut/ Mon, 04 Nov 2024 15:00:15 +0000 https://www.salzkammergut-2024.at/veranstaltungen/lets-go-salzkammergut/ The programme for "Aufbruch, Salzkammergut!" runs through the entire Capital of Culture region and is the last major event in the official title year of the European Capital of Culture. However, the last festival - not a finale - should not be seen as a conclusion, but dares to take a bold look into the future. The momentum of the impulse year should be carried forward. Our departure will take place in Laakirchen and Gmunden.

Das ganze Programm als Booklet (pdf)

Stadttheater Gmunden, Theatergasse 7

Main hall on the ground floor

  • 20 h Opening by Tom Neuwirth and the Capital of Culture team
Tom Neuwirth has toured the world as Conchita and has inspired thousands. He has returned to support and accompany the Capital of Culture as a member of the committee, and his words will span an arc from the opening in January to the final departure of the Capital of Culture
  • 20:15 – 21 h Counter and Strings. Alois Mühlbacher and the String Quartet. (concert)
The self-definition of the 4 gentlemen from Linz is already a real eye-opener: JazzRockClassicalCrossover String Quartet. And then there is the great countertenor Alois Mühlbacher. A sonic experience and an exciting encounter from Queen to Vivaldi.
  • 21 – 21:45 Timpani, triangle and tam-tam. The incredible world of Vivi Vassileva. (percussion)
The young percussionist Vivi Vassileva regularly sets off from her home in Ebensee to wow audiences in concert halls around the world. Together with guitarist Lucas Campara Diniz, she has created a multi-sound spectacle for the Capital of Culture that puts composers such as Iannis Xenakis in a new, fresh light.
  • 22 – 23 h HipHop meets Pop, Indie joins Rap. Sharktank (concert)
Hip hop meets pop, indie joins rap: Katrin, Mile and Marco not only overcome and combine genres in their interplay – as Sharktank, they open up “a niche on the German-speaking music market that we didn’t know existed until now” (DIFFUS); where playful feel-good beats and light-hearted instrumentals meet conscious rap and melodic vocals, the Viennese trio has found its colourful, independent sound – jump in & swim along!
  • 23:15 – 01 h Doris UHLICH (DJ performance) Every Body Boom
The choreographer, performer and DJ Doris Uhlich invites you to an energetic night of dance in which her artistic ideas resonate. A mixture of her favourite sounds and beats will be served up, from pop to techno and classical music. The body is celebrated in a sound bath of the most diverse musical genres.
  • 01 h – end Miss Ivanka T. (DJ performance, Salzkammerqueer hosted by Aufbruch, Salzkammergut!)
Icon, legend & sensation Miss Ivanka T. With a passport from Austria and a heart in Berlin, she is the symbiosis of the cheeky country mouse with the Berlin city brat in one. From pop, hosting, TV to make-up, she is at home wherever dialect & diversity is allowed to reign & people want to forget the outside world for an hour.

Bar on the 1st floor

  • 20 – 23 h korli (DJ set)
Growing up in the 90s – the decade of CDs – Klara aka korli’s love of music began with her parents’ CD collection. Instead of vinyl stores, LIBROs were bought empty and, in the absence of alternatives, 30-second snippets were downloaded from the first music sites on the Internet. The CDs have disappeared, the love of music and the data size of the downloaded music have grown. Their sets build a bridge from R’n’B to hip hop to house and electronic bass music, and sometimes a tribute to the decade of CDs awaits at the end of this bridge.
  • 23 h – end DJ Rich Parents (DJ set, Salzkammerqueer hosted by Aufbruch, Salzkammergut!)
Salzkammerqueer hosted by Aufbruch, Salzkammergut! DJ Rich Parents plays pop to hyperpop but mainly goes off, brings not only queer bangers but the whole party. DJ RP’s best friends are Kylie and Kim, which sums it up, so treat them like a slut and you won’t get them out of your head.

Kinosaal 1. Floor

  • 20 h – midnight Let’s go, Salzkammergut! Model region for rural Europe
Documentation European Capital of Culture Bad Ischl Salzkammergut 2024, Chris Gütl

Former drugstore in the city centre, Rathausplatz 6

  • From 17 h JUKEBOX with ABSINTH BAR by God’s Entertainment (Analogue Juke Box)
K20, J14, U07, A11 are the abbreviations used on menus in popular restaurants. They allow us to communicate with each other and, in the best case, get served what we want. JUKEBOX works on the same principle, which nowadays can only be found on eBay or Willhaben under rarities and golden prices. JUKE BOX by God’s Entertainment will open our eyes, mouths and ears again and at the same time make everyone emotionally satisfied. Our JUKE BOX is analogue, mechanical, speaks, takes 2 EURO, winks and has every song in stock that has somehow been documented in the last official 6000 years of human history. From Katy Perry to Vangelis. Forward into the past!
ABSINTH BAR – RESEARCH SPACES FOR PSYCHOACTIVIST STATES
What does it mean to be in a normal state? Mere conditioning to the familiar or being in line with syllogistic logic? If you are in the four-sided stands of a football stadium, for example, you wait spellbound for the slow motion replay of the goal or a disputed offside position. Standing at the checkout of a supermarket, do you immediately rule out the possibility that the overworked cashier is a German? After a moment’s thought, however, you quickly realise that the search for a logical conclusion seems illogical after all. Absinth Bar offers nothing that we are used to, it stands outside of any logic and learned sensuality. It refuses to keep its usual opening hours and does not adhere to any other conventional agreements. The meaningfulness of intoxication, the essence of the evening and the truthfulness of the psychoactive state are on the menu at HEURE VERTE.

Stadtpfarrkirche, Kirchenplatz 5

  • 20:30 – 21:30 h Instrumental Art Pop by Anna Lang and Alois Eberl
Sinfonia De Carnaval – that’s Anna Lang and Alois Eberl on cello, trombone, accordion, percussion, electronics and voices. Instrumental art pop that knows no boundaries: elements of jazz and pop meet electronic sound universes and the full sound spectrum of classical playing techniques. Violoncello, voice, trombone, percussion and accordion in a unique and newly defined sound!

Evangelische Kirche, Georgstraße 9

  • 19:30 – 21 h Magdalena Hasibeder, organ I Georg Hasibeder, vibraphone I Jonathan Six, marimba: The Beauty and the Beat. Fireworks with organ and percussion.
The Hasibeder siblings have made different careers from Linz. Organist Magdalena Hasibeder continues to enliven the local music scene with surprising encounters. Here she fuses the enchanting organ of the Evangelical Church with the large instruments of percussionists Jonathan Six and Georg Hasibeder a truly fraternal firework display.

Bürgerspitalkirche, Kößlmühlgasse 1

  • 21 – 24 h Holy Hydra with AVBRUCH
AVBRUCH is an audio-visual installation that renegotiates the theme of new beginnings in an intense live performance. Here, past and future meet, traditions are broken, a dialogue of extremes unfolds: light meets dark, loud meets quiet, sacred meets profane, yin meets yang. The hospital church becomes an interface, a control centre between the worlds – a place where boundaries become blurred. Holy Bim Bam. Bum.
Ford Escort & Jens Vetter (Sound Artists), Robert Huemer & Tim Niedermeier (Visual Artists), Amanda Augustin & Lorena Höllrigl – Hydra Kulturverein (Artistic Concept)

Stadtplatz Schiffsanlegestelle, Schiffsangelesteg am Rathausplatz

  • 19 – 21 h Plateau Blo meets Urban Sauna Club meets Kombucha by Studio Clemens Bauder, DJ Sets by raumarbeiterinnen & friends
At the end of the European Capital of Culture project Plateau Blo, the floating sauna on Lake Traun by the artists’ collective raumarbeiterinnen and in collaboration with the University of Art and Design Linz, we’re turning up the heat once again. Also taking part is the Kombucha Bar by Studio Clemens Bauder, architect and graduate of the University of Art, as well as the residence guests, Martin and Flora Szurcsik-Nimmervoll, who will translate the sauna to Rathausplatz with a wolf as an expansive construction and intervention. DJ sets by raumarbeiterinnen & friends embed the installation by the lake in nocturnal sounds. “The right dance outfit for the evening is an eye-catching bathrobe over a winter jacket.”

Café Brandl, Rathausplatz 1

  • From 21:15 h DJ sets by Drumfabrik (DJs: Asense, Cerf, Critical Contents, Dvnc, Nikasun, Rawtid, Voltare, Zappla)
With the mission to promote the electronic music scene in Upper Austria, the Drumfabrik cultural association was founded by Zappla in Vorchdorf around 7 years ago. Dozens of events with international stars of the scene later, the girls and boys are paying another visit to the town of Gmunden and are looking forward to a night of dancing, passion and of course: drum & bass!

Bar Zum blauen Affen, Kirchengasse 8

  • 20:30 – 24 h Literaturrausch hosted by Wirtshauslabor – readings and spoken word performances
An empty cultural venue becomes a wild literary salon for one evening. Under the name “Literaturrausch”, the successful Capital of Culture project Wirtshauslabor is making its final appearance for 2024. Curated by Magdalena Stammler and Christina Jaritsch, the following authors will be taking to the stage: Lydia Haider, Mercedes Kornberger, Jacinta Nandi, Jörg Piringer and Magdalena Stammler.

Under the motto “Ausdrahn: Village Party & Volxfest” performers and musicians from the EU project Village Party and the Volxfest project, together with the three European Capitals of Culture 2024 Bad Ischl Salzkammergut, Bodø in Norway and Tartu in Estonia, are organising a joint evening.

The evening is a mixture of traditional dance floor, games and party. Estonian, Norwegian, Austrian and Italian traditional music and dances meet contemporary forms. It is about elements and rules of celebration as well as playful spontaneous moments and stereotypes. Because the art and power of celebration lies in the balance between the rules that define the exact sequence of festivities and free, spontaneous, intuitive forms of expression that express joy and affection among the revellers, high spirits, but also sadness and anger. It is about European commonalities of celebration as well as differences, about personal feelings of home and global humanity. Whether traditional or artistic – the planned meets the spontaneous, choreography meets the free dance floor. The audience is invited to take part in games, competitions, rhythmic and musical elements, traditional dances and funny movements. Forms of celebration from the Arctic, Estonia and Austria are used that are no longer common today. Using material from archival sources, they will be reconstructed and embedded in contemporary social contexts to inspire new developments – a Future of Folkart.

Under the motto “The Art and Power of Celebration”, participants and visitors will experience a culture of togetherness and cultural affiliations from different perspectives. The aim of “Ausdrahn – Village Party & Volxfest” is to incorporate diversity as well as international and intersectional perspectives into regional folk cultural forms of expression. In the artistic process, questions about origin and developments in social, contemporary and international discourses are answered differently than in conventional settings.

Given norms of celebration are taken up, questioned and combined with new, diverse forms of expression. These hybrid forms are intended to contribute to a better understanding of different people, reduce fear of change and open up a personal approach to celebrating through body awareness.

Participating artists:
Farah Deen, Irene Egger (artistic research), Matteo Haitzmann, Sigurd-Johan Heide, Tone Ingvaldsen, Johanna- Adele Jüssi, Simon Mayer, Ole Nilssen, Espen Nordheim, Markus Prieth, Patric Redl, Hannah Shakti-Bühler, Mario* Sinnhofer, Irma-Maria Troy, Hannah Maria Wimmer

Village Party meets Volxfest is a joint project by Art in Motion/Simon Mayer, Kartellet / Sigurd-Johan Heide, Johanna-Adele Jüssi Estonia and Austrian Folk Music and Song Society / Irene Egger.

DORIS UHLICH Performance for a Coloured House https://www.salzkammergut-2024.at/en/veranstaltungen/doris-uhlich-performance-for-a-coloured-house-2/ Tue, 15 Oct 2024 14:00:24 +0000 https://www.salzkammergut-2024.at/veranstaltungen/doris-uhlich-performance-for-a-coloured-house-2/ Works by the renowned Chinese artist Ai Weiwei, in which he likes to refer to the earliest Chinese dynasties, stand alongside important archaeological finds from the Hallstatt period (800-450 BC) and create a unique space for a dialogue between art and history, a fascinating encounter between two worlds.

The Hallstatt culture, an important prehistoric culture in Central Europe, left behind impressive archaeological finds. The exhibition presents a selection of these discoveries, including ceramics, jewellery, weapons and tools from the collections of the Upper Austrian Provincial Museum, giving visitors an insight into the life and culture of the Hallstatt period.

The exhibition presents these objects not only as historical artefacts, but also as a link to our ancestors and a source of inspiration for contemporary art. The archaic artworks by Ai Weiwei, in display cases specially designed by him, complement the collection in an ingenious way. The result is an exciting dialogue that raises questions about identity, tradition and human heritage.

In the Kaiserpark, a captivating encounter unfolds between the Marmorschlössl and an original Chinese temple, while Ai Weiwei’s monumental zodiac heads enter into dialogue with the Kaiservilla. Ai Weiwei’s “Zodiac Heads” are a reinterpretation of the fountain figures that once stood in front of the imperial summer palace in Beijing and were destroyed during the First Opium War (1839 -1842). Now they stand again at a fountain, flanking the summer residence of Austrian Emperor Franz Joseph I in Bad Ischl, where he signed the declaration of war on Serbia that was to lead to a global tragedy.

Despite the differences between the two cultures, the juxtaposition makes it clear how closely they are connected.

Two people who express their attitude, their spirit of resistance, their love for people and their occasional amazement at them in their art: One draws and paints, the other sings and plays his accordion.

Haderer’s caricatures are razor-sharp, rich in detail, trenchant and irresistible. Caricatures familiar from newspapers and numerous publications are now projected onto the wall and presented by the master himself. With a story or two to go with them. In between, Hans Peter Falkner, a maestro on the accordion and part of the musical duo Attwenger for decades, sings and plays music. In his dances and songs, he combines unique linguistic artistry with a playful squeezebox sound. Haderer and Falkner rock each other through this evening: a colourful cartoon show with music, brains and humour.

Often these are spaces that are not intended for living and where the usual amenities such as running water, toilet, bathroom, heating,… are not available. This is also the case in the former waiting hall at Hallstatt station. The artist will live/work/live there from August 13 to September 25. Living is working is living is working is living. The artist draws no boundaries between the individual activities.

For her, simply living in a place always means a confrontation with that place. Inevitably, content and questions arise about the building, the surroundings, the people and events. The artist responds to this with site-specific works that are created as a processable during her stay. You can see these new results on each of the four weekends.

SIMPLY LIVING is also open for individual visits by appointment until 20/09/24.

The hosts invite you to creative stimulation and conversation between women in "their parlour", an atmospheric barn that will provide the setting for our project.

1st part of the evening:

  • Scarlett de Mehigan (bodyworker/soundhealer) will once again open the evening with a cocoa ceremony.
  • Judith Raupp (performance artist) will help us to experience our own physical limits in a body-related workshop. The movements of the group will form a performative dance harmony.
  • Dr. med univ Doreen Jaenich (physician and psychologist) will specifically address the innermost, individual sensitivities as an artist in a guided group constellation. Creative blockages and the flow of inspiration will be explored.

2nd part of the evening:

  • We will then be invited to the table. Dinner will be served and together, over a glass of wine, we will reflect on the input of the previous evening.

Scarlett Dee has been a spiritual practitioner for over 30 years. Her journey has taken her deep into the practices of yoga, tantra, and breathwork, where she has dedicated herself to guiding others on their paths to self-discovery and empowerment, especially through yoga teacher trainings and retreats. Scarletts true passion lies in helping women connect with their inner strength, build unshakable confidence, and live authentically. She specifically loves holding space for women who want to be badass, fully confident, and unapologetically empowered through the power of their breath.
And that’s exactly what she is going to do for us, opening the nights to get us all on the same level.

Judith Raupp lives and works in Vienna. She is currently studying site-specific art at the Angewandte and works at the interface between sculpture and performance.
In her workshop, she will introduce physical exercises from somatics, yin yoga and theatre work to loosen up the body and move through the space together in a protected setting.

Dr Doreen Jaenichen is a specialist in integrative and general medicine and runs the Mayrlife health spa in Altaussee. For 30 years, she has been working on the interaction of various natural healing methods, spirituality and conventional medicine, effectively supporting healing processes.
Being completely there. How can I live my own expression in times full of expectations from outside and high demands from within? How can I give myself and my creativity space and a voice?
How can I live a healthy relationship with myself and with others?
A short keynote speech at the beginning will open up the space. We will playfully embark on a journey to ourselves, feel where we can discover new sides of ourselves and express them. Relaxed, we will experience and create an evening full of vitality, lightness and joy and also integrate the unloved where it has not yet been allowed to be part of the whole.

CircleSalon

The focus of the women’s circle is on the exchange of experiences among the artists on topics such as the “female working body” and “the task of being a woman”

As a flâneur of unsuspected adventures, Ungepflegt transforms herself to such an extreme that she gives the impression of being Princess Diana resurrected from death.

The post THE ROYAL PARTY CRASHER appeared first on Salzkammergut 2024.

]]>
The Viennese artist approaches the glorification of the Princess of Wales in meticulously conceived public appearances that show the contradictory nature of a (double) existence and the fragility between self-image and external image. Paraphrasing the media reality of the late Diana Spencer, central questions of identity, construction and glorification are at the centre of this work, which is a continuation of her previous art figure variations, such as the figure of the Federal Minister for Homeland Dirt and International Affairs or that of the clerk Babi K.. The striking external resemblance between Lady Di and Barbara Ungepflegt is taken to extremes in THE ROYAL PARTY CRASHER. The admirers, the insatiable “myth consumers”, as Roland Barthes once described them, will come into contact with royal figures such as Emperor Franz, Sisi and Lady Di on this day. Regardless of whether they are “real” or not.

Books have been burnt time and again throughout history – but the resistant spirit of the words could never be banished. In Ray Bradbury’s science fiction novel Fahrenheit 451, memorising books is an act of rebellion. Man himself becomes a book. This idea inspired the Norwegian Mette Edvardsen to create her project Time has fallen asleep in the afternoon sunshine. In 2010, she began building the library of living books: Since then, performers all over the world have been memorising books. These books can be “borrowed” from bookshops, museums or libraries and “read” for 30 minutes. The project examines how memory not only preserves its objects, but also constantly transforms them. Each new reading of the books leads to surprising and touching encounters between strangers. Each “reading” is for one person only and lasts 30 minutes.

Books in German: Die Baugrube by Andrej Platonow; Vielleicht Esther by Katja Petrowskaja; Nachdenken über Christa T. by Christa Wolf; Faust I by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe; Seltsame Sterne starren zur Erde by Emine Sevgi Özdamar. Book in English: I Am a Cat by Söseki Natsume.

ANALOG! continues this tradition with contemporary artistic references and offers a series of productions that deal with the former Stephaneum secondary school.

Meeting point: 12.00 noon, Loidl landing stage, Traunkirchen
In order to reserve enough places on the boat, we ask for confirmation by Monday, 12.08.2024
Registration at: office@isastein.com
Catering is provided.

Performance duration: 2 hours, Return journey: 14.00 hrs
Disembarking and docking via water taxi is possible at any time
From 9.00 hrs you can watch the preparatory performance on the rock from the lake and shore.
From 12.00 hrs video documentation of the SCHOTTERHERZEN, as well as a direct view of the creation of the FELSHERZEN.

PART 1 – SCHOTTERHERZ
(ISA STEIN/FELIX MITTER, active quarry, no visitors)
Karbach is an active quarry. Red and white Traunstein marble is quarried at the top of the Karbach quarry. The performance reacts to the conditions, utilises them and becomes part of them. In the active quarry, a heart is dug into the ground using an excavator.
The excavated material is then tipped into the approximately 120 metre deep drop shaft. The falling of stones creates an echo. This process is recorded virtually and acoustically and the shovelled heart connects with the formation process of the heart on the rock.

PART 2 – FELSHERZ
(ISA STEIN/HELI PUTZ, disused quarry, visitors – view from the lake)
The subsequently created FELSHERZ is attached by the extreme climber Heli Putz as an echo by means of abseiling at a height of about 160m . Extreme climber Heli Putz – connected to ISA STEIN via headphones – sprays a heart of ink onto the Karbacher rock at a height of around 160 metres under the artist’s guidance. The echo, as well as the recordings from PART 1 Performance Schotterherz, are presented to the audience simultaneously acoustically and via video. Both hearts are ephemeral. The heart on the rock dissolves again after a few downpours.

So the first performance can only be seen in virtual transmission. The pure documentation makes it possible to perceive the process in the active mining area. In contrast to the intimate process on the plateau, the creation process of the FELSHERZENS in the disused part can be seen from the Karbach lake and landing site and can be understood as an echo. The duality plays with change, with making visible, the virtual and the real, as well as the temporal component. In a figurative sense, the heart refers to an originally prehistoric form of mark-making (cave painting, etc.), with which it was possible to document, depict and send messages. ISA STEIN calls this MESSAGING ART PERFORMANCE.

The heart is the most beautiful form of a message.
The heart is visible from the lake until the next downpour and then dissolves.

Villa Karbach

Where the real and the bizarre meet, “scurrealism” enters the world. This neologism comes from Ebensee writer Walter Pilar, the instigator of the Villa Karbach art project. He and many other artists are showing works of unconventional power and intensity.

They open up holes, make you catch your breath, create distance, calm and irritate at the same time. In the UNVERMÖGENSVERKEHRSSTELLE gaps are understood as fixed points that carry information, visualise social and political issues. The gap also always refers to something past, to a loss, to something that was once there.

On 17 August 2024, artist Barbara Ungepflegt will be exploring Austria’s gaps at Bad Ischl railway station, bringing to light things that were thought to have been lost, while elsewhere she will be punching holes at random and inserting spaces in well-known texts in a fair and gender-appropriate way. In the UNVERMÖGENSVERKEHRSSTELLE, the Viennese artist reads non-stop from Hitler’s Mein Kampf, which she translated into gender-appropriate and fair language in 2022 as part of her dissertation at the University of Art and Design Linz. It is up to the audience to decide when they want to join the marathon reading and how long they want to listen. The marathon reading starts at 11 a.m. and ends at 9 p.m.

For several years now, French Compagnie DK-BEL has been presenting shows that feature dancers with and without disabilities. Very often, the feedback from the audience is simply: “It’s beautiful…”

From a starting point of poet Charles Baudelaire’s notion of Beauty as linked to the bizarre, to strangeness, to chaos, to pain and the fragility of beings, and adding the impulse of taking flight as a powerful symbol of optimism and unity, “C’est BEAU!” explores how beauty can actually be a conduit between personal and collective and even universal emotion.

The piece by DK-BEL and 6e Sens, which is also being performed as part of the Cultural Olympiad 2024 in Paris, conveys values like sharing, togetherness, kindness and respect. It offers the world a gentle and non-conformist vision of beauty, borrowed from these different concepts, performed in symbiosis with the places it passes through and its audiences’ own perceptions.

The artist collective Terrains Vagues is working on site to test the “Smallest Water Park in Austria” as a utopian project that questions the accessibility of leisure facilities in tourist areas and especially at Lake Traunsee in Gmunden, where access is mainly private. It is a nod to large-scale infrastructures that offer a paid-for pleasure detached from the surroundings and promote a consumerist approach to our natural environment.

The aim of the project is to utilise one of Plateau Blo’s floating platforms and transform it through experimental and collaborative water games. The collective proposes an alternative design of water parks by constructing systems of reused materials that can be activated by the public to interact with Lake Traunsee.

At the opening on Saturday 29 June from 11am to 2pm, they will activate the installation, first with a performance in which they ask questions to the lake and then invite people to use the installation.

The poet, writer and radio play author Friederike Mayröcker lived for almost a century and made an impressive mark on German literature. She felt her environment with all her senses, moulded it into language and released it again in her very own way as “Proesie”. She described her flat as a “writing box”, where she formed an organism with her texts and words, and for one magical hour the Lehár Theatre was transformed into a Mayröcker’s place of words. A staircase, a socket, a wardrobe mirror will become a text-image-object with a quotation from her work, her signatures will be drawn in the dust of the past and the long invisible will become small works of art of the present.

“… we all felt = in the belly of the mountain = the breath of death. While the waning moon glided over the hills, back then in Bad Ischl.” (from: fleurs, 2016)

The Scharnstein station cat, a limping, purring, always trusting loner, spent many happy years in her little cat house on platform 1. She was always well looked after by the loving donations and cuddles of many passengers. But since the end of April, she has disappeared along with her little house. Has she been called back to the eternal hunting grounds, deported to Pettenbach or perhaps even “renaturalised”?

The Scharnstein Rederei is moving into the railway station from 15-23/06 to fully investigate the disappearance of the cat and give her a dignified farewell. Citizens are invited to share their memories, suspicions, hopes and other worries and concerns with community speaker Fabian Faltin during “consultation hours”.

Together, we are working on a large artistic memorial event in the spirit of humanity and solidarity. A loving memorial with a eulogy, for all interested citizens, for over 100 invited international guests of the European Capital of Culture, and above all “For the cat”.

15-16/06/24 Consultation hours Rederei Scharnstein from 15h30 – 18h3 as well as by appointment.

Folklore music, lifestyle and customs were repeatedly adapted in local redefinitions at the latest with the beginning of the summer holidays and the accompanying cultural exchange, but were also dissected, blurred, distorted or reinterpreted in a way that was torn apart.

The frequently used word “identity” means understanding oneself outside of geographical space. Above all, however, politics, business and the media claim terms such as: In the form of a performative interactive installation, visitors are invited to engage in dialogue with Petra Anlanger and Leonhard Immervoll in order to approach the question and to find new approaches. A fictitious authority is created for this purpose, in which all people can acquire a certificate of homeland and customs. The effects of climate change and environmental destruction are putting people worldwide, especially within the global south, into increasingly precarious living conditions. As a result, for example, the right to access to clean water was already recognized by the UN General Assembly as a basic human right in 2010.

In Flood, the text and images are interwoven with each other: from the letters and words that constitute both the current draft of international human rights as well as the most virulent results of climate change, moving images of landscapes, of water, as well as of the consequences of the overexploitation of the earth and its climate emerge.

The cultural scientist and artist Sandra Chatterjee gives an insight into “The 200-year counterculture of anti-colonial resistance”. Since the beginning of European colonialism, there has also been a history of cultural and political counter-designs for the liberation and renewal of colonized societies. This critique of the “West”, which has developed over centuries, has produced important intellectuals such as Rabindranath Tagore (the first Asian Nobel Prize winner for literature) and Aimé Fernand Césaire, as well as leaders of national liberation movements such as Hồ Chí Minh, Mao Zedong and Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi. In the lecture, Sandra Chatterjee discusses some examples of different models of anti-colonial resistance.

The Aussee duo Franz Thalhammer & Toni Burger will provide a regional musical counterpoint with “Songs from the Undergrowth”.

The “New Right”, which started in France in the 1960s and spread rapidly in the German-speaking countries, sees itself as a countercultural elite to the decadent West and advocates a renewal of Europe in the national-ethnic sense. It seeks a connection and influence in the middle of society and uses social crises to achieve this. It does this with new language and new concepts, as the terms “metapolitics” or “ethnopluralism” of the “Identitarian Movement” show. A musical counterpoint as a follow-up to the dialogue is provided by the gipsy swing jazz of the Quartet Paganin-Soatn.

Unconventional. Against the mainstream. Counter-culture. Against those up there? When one thinks of this term in the context of the Salzkammergut, something obvious comes to mind: Independent. Stubborn. Resistant. Whether reality or cliché, somehow the idea of the unconventional and of demarcation against central power (also a legacy of Protestantism?), against appropriation and conformity seems to be associated with this region – even if it is perhaps only half the truth. This concerns the history of the region, especially the history of a regional workers’ culture that came into opposition and resistance to National Socialism. And it concerns the emphasis on what is special and unique about the region – right up to tourism marketing. It concerns youth cultures and cultural initiatives that fought (or fought) for a place for a different, own culture – also against the dominating power of traditionalism and “folk culture ideology”. It concerns resistance against the raging madness of a development of growth and civilisation that has gone off the rails. A resistance that expresses itself in various forms of drop-out and withdrawal: as a flight to the countryside or as a retreat to ideal islands and closed communities. It concerns independent music cultures and literary experiments beyond the mainstream of the music industry, whose protagonists find their own artistic and musical forms of expression – from the underground to folk music. The forms of expression and manifestation of the unconventional to the point of countercultural are endless. They can also be found in this region in particular.
